FAQ
From Create Wiki
What is the Create Project's goal?
The goal of the Create Project is to develop and consolidate shared resources amongst the various Free and Open Source creative software applications while building relationships between these communities
Why are you making yet another standardization project?
We believe that there is a need for standardization between creative applications in Free and Open Source software as the creative vision for these types of projects has allowed for varying levels of standards support, interface types, key-bindings, and so forth. These differences between applications are many times beneficial. However, these differences also make it hard on the users to learn different applications and difficult for sharing resources between communities.
Interestingly, the many different communities have already developed large amounts of shared resources (ie, brushes, color support, keybindings), yet the different creative application development communities do not know these resource exist and thus never get shared. So, there is a need to consolidate and encourage sharing these resources to improve the overall support amongst software communities.
How can I help on this project?
Communicate with us about what you would like to do? Also, start by filling out and responding to bugs and feature requests. This really helps the community and introduces new people to the developer community.
What is the general timeline for this project?
This project is more ambient than a traditional software project in that it is not time-based with releases, and is rather a space provided for sharing. Thus, there might be lots of time that goes by when there is not much updated here, on the mailing list or in the chat channel. Planet Create on the main page is really helpful as a constant way to keep posted on the various developers in different creative application development communities, and is ultimately the best way to keep tabs on the project's development.
Is this the proper place to host my _____ specification?
Communicate with us what type of specification you would like to have hosted here. We primarily encourage creative application specifications. Look at the other specifications to get an idea as to what this entails.
How can I get a hold of the developers on this project?
Check out the communication page to see the best way that suits you to communicate with us. Right now the mailing list is probably the most effective way to communicate with the developers of this project.
What is considered a creative application?
A creative application is one that generates or operates on some type of multi-media like sound, video, image, text, and interactive content. This is not an exhaustive list and is placed here to highlight the areas this project expects to expand into.
How can I check out the various projects?
Well, hop onto the mailing list and check out what we have in our repository using SVN.
How can I get to the various SVN modules?
We use SVN. Please get familiar with it.
How can I become a developer on the project?
Basically, please contribute to the mailing list, wiki, etc. If you would like developer level access, please contribute a patch against one of our SVN modules. This includes the website, shared resources spec (create module), or the create_docs. After that, we will go through the proper channels to get an account setup with fd.o.
