The Open Content Library is all about the development of online communities to create, share and distribute as many forms of "open" digital content as possible. It came from the successful Open Clip Art Library project in order to build connections between libraries that already exist and to standardize upon the methods of inter-communication.

About

The Open Content Library is all about the development of online communities to create, share and distribute as many forms of "open" digital content as possible.

After the success of the Open Clip Art Library, and the interest in the future development of the Open Font Library, this umbrella .org was created to help manage the development of future open content projects.

A secondary goal of opencontentlibrary.org is to promote, yet not be restricted to the OpenSource tools that can be used to develop that type of content. The best example of this is openclipart.org and inkscape.org; they are both closely affiliated, yet artists can use other properetry tools (eg Adobe Illistrator) to create content for openclipart.org

Currently, the best place to interact with other members of the Open Content Library, is to use the communication channels that have been established for the Open Clip Art Library.

Summary: The Open Clip Art library's goal is to collect, collate and make available an extensive array of Public Domain clip art. The Open Clip Art Library uses the open vector format SVG as its primary file format, which is a powerful format for distributing and using clip art. The Open Clip Art library started as a side project of the Inkscape project, which is a powerful vector graphics editor which primary format is SVG. The Open Clip Art Library was the first in the series of Open Content Libraries that was developed.
