SUBJECT: Libre Graphics Meeting 2009 Sponsorship
Dear ____,
For the last three years, the Inkscape, Scribus, Gimp, Blender, Krita, Open Clip Art Library, Open Font Library and other Free and Open Source Graphics communities have come together to make an annual developer and users conference. The Libre Graphics Meeting (LGM) is an annual workshop for developers and users of free software graphics applications to collaborate and advance the cause of high-quality free graphics software. The fourth annual LGM will be held May 6 - 9, 2009 in Montreal, Canada at École Polytechnique.
We are seeking sponsorship which will allow us to put on this event. Sponsorship will be used solely to provide travel subsidies to the developers who work on Free and Open Source Graphics projects around the world, often for free in their spare time. This low-level of sponsorship is possible because Polytechnique — who is hosting LGM for the 2nd time in four years — is giving us full access to their premises for absolutely free : amphitheatres, Internet access wireless, rooms for meetings, communication facilities, etc. The extra money we need is going to be used to get those developers together. LGM is THE annual meeting they need to coordinate their efforts towards better applications and better integration between applications. For most teams, LGM is the only moment these people will be able to talk between eyes. It’s not only important, it’s crucial work.
For 2009, we are providing sponsorship levels which we hope you will consider:
Platinum (Greater than 10K $USD)
* Your company logo and link on each page of the website: http://libregraphicsmeeting.org/ * Once sponsorship received, will be thanked in email communications and press releases * Special Press Release to announce support together * Special dinner with all LGM Organizing Committee Members if representative attends the conference
Gold (10K $USD)
* Your company logo and link on each page of the website: http://libregraphicsmeeting.org/ * Once sponsorship received, will be thanked in email communications and press releases * Special dinner with all LGM Organizing Committee Members if representative attends the conference
Silver (5K $USD)
* Your company logo and link on sponsors page of the website * Thanked in a sponsorship announcement release
Bronze (3K $USD)
* Your company logo and link on sponsors page of the website
And, if you or your company want to contribute under $3K, we hope you will consider personally or through your organization to contribute to the community fundraising campaign we kicked off a couple of weeks ago. Pledges can be made online at Pledgie.com. Visit http://pledgie.com/campaigns/2926 to make a contribution. All donations are tax deductible for US taxpayers.
For our community fundraising campaign we have raised $1,880.00 USD towards our goal of $15K with 36 supporters in about two weeks. It is definitely tough to raise funds this year, but we are encouraged by the responses received. We are tenacious in our efforts to put this conference on for the benefit of all. In addition to the community campaign, we are asking you and your organization to contribute towards our goal of $20K from large donors and other organizations. We hope that you and/or your company will help sponsor Libre Graphics Meeting 2009.
With the tough economy, many are predicting that more people and organizations will turn to Free and Open Source Software. We are committed to improving Free and Open Source Graphics and getting more to use the software we, including you and your organization, make together.
About Libre Graphics Meeting
For four years, the Libre Graphics Meeting has been the premiere conference for developers, users and supporters of free software graphics applications. Developers from projects such as GIMP, Inkscape, Blender, Krita, Scribus, Hugin, the Open Clipart Library, and the Open Font Library gather to work on interoperability, shared standards, and new ideas. Work at prior LGMs has pushed the state of the art in important areas such as color management, cross-application sharing of brushes and other assets, and common formats.
The face-to-face meetings and opportunities for collaboration are important to developers, and LGM offers plenty for end users as well. Tutorials, talks, and birds-of-a-feather (BOF) meetings to help free software users get the most out of their applications fill out the LGM schedule, and demonstrations from artists showcase what is possible.
