Getting to LGM from the Montreal airport with the shuttle

L'Aérobus is the shuttle service from Montréal - Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport to the Montréal Central Bus Station (Berri Terminal).

* Tickets for L’Aérobus are on sale at the Airport ticket kiosk.

The Montréal Central Bus Station has direct access to Montréal métro (our subway), station Berri-UQAM. See map of métro.

  • Look for the orange line, direction of station Montmorency.
  • Get off at Laurier, 3rd station from Berri-UQAM
  • Head towards the tail of the train when getting off as there are 2 exits, one at each end of the platform. You want Boul. St-Joseph Exit
  • Go upstairs and get on the queue for bus 51 that will bring you directly to the LGM site (See more detailed info in the section On your way to LGM below.)

We suggest you buy your public transport tickets or pass at Berri-UQAM. You'll save money and time. Consider taking advantage of the pass options (weekly or monthly) as they allow unlimited use of the buses and métro for the period. Ask for this at the kiosk, there is one in each métro station. Not at the airport, though. Montreal Public Transport Fares

Rooms will be available at a special LGM low rate including wired internet access and all taxes. Prices in CAD. Valid upon reservation made up to April 6, 2009. We are in the process of closing this deal. It will be possible to make reservations a little time from now. Room reservation and booking — Please note that it’s each person’s responsibilty to book the room. LGM organisation only helps negociate a good price and manages to "secure" a block of rooms (still to be determined) so availability is not an issue.

Video/audio

  • We would like to record (video + audio) all presentations
  • Broadcast: we could want to broadcast the conference
  • Polytechnique can help on the technical/network side, including access to the the sound console in the main amphi, wired connexion, fixed IP.
  • We assume there will be someone in charge of the recordings. Please contact the organiser directly.
  • We’re going to need access to a remote server with enough bandwidth (external of Polytechnique)

LGM Website

  • We need a webmaster (not Louis!)
  • LGM website needs to be updated — please give access to the organiser for quick updates
  • We need a form to be filled for the participants, including personnal infos for transportation refunds
  • We could set-up a forum that could be online asap and we would use this during LGM for remote questions (this is a draft idea that needs to be digged a bit)

UPDATE: We have a website! Libre Graphics Meeting 2009

Social Networks and Press

NOTE: Jon Phillips 01:07, 17 February 2009 (UTC) I created these. I gave passwords to Louis and Dave Neary as well.

Administration

  • Gnome Foundation will be handling all the LGM money and will proceed with reimbursements as per LGM organisation team’s instructions
  • All the transportation receipts must be sent to Louis Desjardins. Pic, scan, PDF of ticket, all receipts clearly showing the price are ok. Please hold your original until reimbursement has been processed. There will be a short form to fill available on the website (on the todo list as of May 2nd 2009).
  • There will be only one list of people sent to Rosanna by the LGM organisation.
  • All reimbursement orders will have to be gathered before LGM 2009 ends.

There are three ways for the GNOME Foundation to send reimbursements. The first method is via PayPal. To transfer funds via PayPal, I need the following:

- PayPal account name (the email address used to sign up with PayPal)
- Amount of reimbursement
- Copy of the travel receipt

If the recipient resides in the US, I can send a check. The information I need to do this is:

- Recipient's name
- Recipient's address
- Recipient's phone number
- Amount of reimbursement
- Copy of the travel receipt

Technically, I can send a check overseas as well, but as the check is from a US bank, it is usually not the best option.

The last method is a bank wire transfer. The information I need to perform a transfer is as follows:

- Account holder's name
- Account holder's address
- Account number (preferably IBAN)
- Bank name
- Bank address
- SWIFT code
- Currency of account
- Amount of reimbursement
- Copy of travel receipt

  • Regular talks: 30 minutes + 5 minutes of recovery time between sessions

Available rooms

  • Main amphi
  • 3 adjacent smaller amphi
  • Open area: Galerie Rolland
  • For people staying at Uni Residences, main hall and meeting space on each floor

The main preoccupation here is to address one of the major concerns expressed by the teams during the past LGMs and give more room for teams to meet. Everyday, the 3-hour lunch break allows this. Plus, it can be extended for another half hour depending on how many short talks we have. All the meeting rooms are located within 5-minute walk.

Conference 2009 Schedule TBD

Achievements

each project values very much the chance of getting together once a year.

Hugin

  • creation of the panorama picture exhibit (has it been shown afterwards?)
  • setuped two GSOC projects
  • created contacts with the 3D visions laboratory from the University of Montréal (good to get the academics envolved)
  • interaction with other teams and most of all with Rawstudio

Gimp

  • BOF on resource tagging
  • enhancement of the roadmap

Scribus

  • intensive bug smashing leading to the 1.3.5 development version

Blender

  • thoughts about color management, especially for film.

the libre/open font community (Debian/Ubuntu font teams, OpenFontLibrary, fontmatrix, Dejavu, OSP typographers)

  • various good talks in the schedule tackling various font-related aspects
  • more people getting familiar with the open font design toolkit (via the open-font-design-toolkit metapackage or directly from source) including theming and scripting
  • feature demo and walk-through for fontmatrix: some bugs squashed, some new installation documentation for Debian/Ubuntu, many new ideas for the future
  • the TextLayout discussion/hack time between Jonathan Kew and Behdad Esfabod
  • very useful discussions around webfonts between open font community, W3C and browser vendors representatives
  • during the open font design workshop: 2 open fonts designed by OSP were finalized and prepared for upcoming release
  • the OSP software map was completed
  • interesting discussion with Ascender representatives
  • discussion on the business model around libre/open fonts
  • energy and drive to move the Open Font Library forward!
  • add your own here!

The logo

Licensing

We should have a proper licensing:

Which logo?

It would be probably good to have the logo fixed for a few years.

Louis suggests we ask Andy to pursue his work on the LGM graphics as he’s done a tremendous work for us this year. He would simply add to the specs that we need to address a couple of simple needs:

We need:

  1. A small version of the logo for various web use
  2. A banner for websites to show their support
  3. A printable version in SVG and EPS versions, color and black&white
  4. A color version for our website and our website banner
  5. A proposal for a t-shirt in one or more colors, bearing in mind we can use it on various t-shirt sizes

What we are missing now is really only a small version that would stand out in such a little size. We have made the point that simply reducing the splash logo was not really an option (too small... but OTOH the colored splash itself is pretty strong).

Professional comment: I think that once we have asked a designer to do this work and he or she has accepted to do it, we must leave it to this person’s judgement and responsibilty to make the calls on that work. What we want to avoid is a "committee creative session" and letting everybody enter the round and have a say. This will only lead to endless discussions, and will lead to frustration and confusion. We don’t want that. It’s creative work. This doesn’t mean we cannot comment the work but it certainly means that it’s the graphic designer’s responsibility and prerogative to complete the graphic web design and adjust it to the various needs we have.

Ale would like to add:

  1. It would be nice to have a version of the logo without "meeting" on it (i could have a use for it for my "Libre Graphics" booth at openexpo.ch and it would be nice to see it at rmll.info)
  2. It would also be nice to have an explanation/description to help people do variation of the logo for other uses (like preparing the website for LGM 2011)
